Lisa De Lazzari & Peter Waller

“ The first time I ever heard and danced Tango, I had a feeling that I had known this forever. I felt such a connection with the music through my heart and my head, that I knew I would never want to stop dancing tango.” (Lisa De Lazzari.)

Both Lisa and Peter started tango in Sydney during 1998 and with little dance experience for Peter and early ballet for Lisa, they embarked on the 'Journey of Tango'. 

Following their first study period to Buenos Aires in 1999, Lisa and Peter formed 'Club de Tango' and set upon establishing a Tango scene in Sydney.  They started the first weekly Milonga in Sydney, (Glebe Town Hall) and after perusal of many possible venues, started the first Milonga's and " Tango Bar ® " in Sydney's Rose Bay (Rose Bay RSL). 

'Club de Tango' is currently Sydney's longest running Tango school, and Lisa and Peter have taught hundreds of people to Tango the authentic way.

Both have extensive training and experience from many of the Masters of Tango Argentino and have danced at the finest Milonga's in Buenos Aires . They incorporate current teaching methods used by the top dancers in Buenos Aires and over the past twenty six years Lisa and Peter have been one of the main contributors in establishing the tango scene in Sydney, through dedication, teaching classes, hosting Milongas (social dances) and performing at many festivals and events.

Their teaching has taken them internationally to Singapore, and around Australia including Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Tasmania, and Newcastle, and their students have the most successful record at the Australian Tango Championships, and many of their students are now teaching around Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle.

They have a long list of professional performances with the highlight being exclusive dancers with world leading Bandoneonist Daniel Binelli & pianist Polly Ferman, receiving the highest compliments for their performances from the Argentine, Uruguayan and Brazilian Ambassadors, and Directors of Australian Dance Council.

They were also contracted for 3 performances promoting Argentine tourism on behalf of the Argentine Government at the 57th Congress of the International Fiscal Association in Sydney, 2003, and have performed at other official events for Argentine Consular General. Since then they have continued to perform Tango around Australia, including two performances at the Sydney Opera House, performances at the Darwin Festival in “Four on the Floor” and numerous other events.

TV and radio appearances have included a “Sixty Minutes” segment with Clive James and ABC radio features.

Lisa is Sydney’s Leading Tango DJ, with international experience in the United Kingdom, Malaysia and the Philippines, and has won Best Local DJ in Sydney against DJ’s from all genres of music in the Alternative Media Awards.  With DJ'ing feature Milongas at the Sydney International Tango Festivals, plus Australian Tango Championships, Sydney Tango Milonga's, as well as resident DJ for La Milonga at Club de Tango.

Lisa is widely regarded as one of the best dancers and teachers in Australia with a wealth of knowledge of both dance technique and tango music. Lisa has a background in classical ballet as well as teaching studies at post graduate level. 

Peter is recognized and listed as a judge by Tango Championships S.A. (T.C.S.) in Buenos Aires, and was a Director of the Tango Championships in Australia, and Director of The Sydney International Tango Festival in, 2005, 2006, and was also a director of the "Australian Tango Championship Limited", plus a judge for the finals of Salon & Stage Tango 2006 championships held at the Sydney Opera House. 

Peter has also been accepted by the governing board in Buenos Aires responsible for  appointing judges under the criteria set by the "World Tango Championships", recognized for his teaching and dedication to tango.

Lisa and Peter's technique, poise and skill make them favourites among professional and accomplished social dancers, as well as visiting international dancers. Peter and Lisa continue to build the tango scene in Sydney, maintaining their place among the leaders of tango in Sydney.
